<p>We all know the dangers of smoking and most people want to stop but just can&#8217;t. They might find that even though they can get all kinds of diseases, they just can&#8217;t seem to quit. This is because it is very addictive, but here are a few ways that you can stop smoking if you want to get healthy again.</p>
<p>The first thing you can do to stop smoking is to search for something like a nicotine patch or nicotine gum. Now, while this is preventing you from lighting up, it also contains nicotine. It is in small doses however and safer than inhaling the cigarette fumes which can reach the brain in about 6 to 8 seconds. The nicotine in a patch or gum will not affect the brain as much or as fast. This is because it is absorbed into the blood stream through your skin or saliva. </p>
<p>If you are serious about not smoking anymore, then you will want to get your hands on these. They do come in a series or a course, and they come in either gum or patches. You will have to start will phase one, but if you are a serious smoker, you may want to look into starting a bit further down the line. </p>
<p>One of the harshest methods that people do use is to go cold turkey. Just stop suddenly without any help. This is easier for those people who just smoke as a social thing and for those where smoking is just a habit and not an actual addiction. You might get some withdrawal symptoms with using this method, but the trick is to not give up. </p>
<p>One method that people use to stop smoking and that can actually cure your addiction is to go to a hypnotherapist. This professional will use hypnosis to help you stop smoking. They will also program something in your brain that tells you smoking is bad and that you don&#8217;t like it. This means that even if you are tempted, you will never smoke again. </p>
<p>Once you find the best way for you to quit smoking you should stick to it. Don&#8217;t give up because otherwise it will be even harder and you will have to start the process right from the beginning again. Choosing to stop smoking will make you feel so much more energetic and you can prevent cancers, emphysema and all kinds of other illnesses.</p>
<p>The best way to start a stop smoking program is to get someone to do it with you. You can help a family member or friend and this will make it easier for you too.</p>

<p>For many smokers the desire to quit smoking is strong yet it seems no matter what they do, they just cant seem to break this devastating habit. The inability to quit smoking causes many to privately belittle themselves and curse their seeming weakness.</p>
<p>For others it seems they simply wake up one morning and decide to quit smoking. What makes the difference in these people? Is someone who decides to quit smoking like this a stronger person than the one who has yet to become a non-smoker? Lets evaluate.</p>
<p>First off, most people even smokers dont really enjoy smoking. For some the nicotine addiction is strong. Nicotine is very addictive, and breaking this addiction by not smoking can be very trying and difficult. Even after months have passed, there are those who will start smoking again. So, if youre one who has yet to quit smoking dont berate or belittle yourself.</p>
<p>Thus, for you the decision to quit smoking must be accompanied by a will that is just as strong, if not stronger than your current will to quit smoking. Many processes and plans have been developed by different organizations to aid you in this process.</p>
<p>One component is mandatory if any of these aids are necessary for the person who previously attempted to quit smoking. This component is your attitude. Before you begin, to quit smoking, you will probably need some adjustments in attitude. If you prepare yourself before you actually quit smoking, your chances for success are much better.</p>
<p>First off, most people even smokers dont really enjoy smoking. For some the nicotine addiction is strong. Nicotine is very addictive, and breaking this addiction by not smoking can be very trying and difficult. Even after months have passed, there are those who will start smoking again. <p>During those days before your actual quit smoking target date, you are mentally preparing yourself to be free from smoking. This must be a strong decision that only you can make for yourself. No one else can do it for you.</p>
<p>To lead you to the strength you need to effectively quit smoking, youll need to evaluate yourself and the real reasons behind why you are still smoking. This is not an easy task for many, but once theyve listed all the true reasons, and have adopted the mental attitude to replace smoking with other things that will provide better benefits, the task of quitting becomes much easier.</p>
<p>Once your quit smoking date arrives, you may want to use some of the aids discussed above to improve your success rate. The point is that if youve properly done your preparation beforehand your opportunity for success will be greatly improved. </p>
<p>Remember, the mind and body thrive and accommodate whatever substance you give it. Be sure to feed both the mind and body only positive substance and the results will be positive. You can quit smoking.</p>

<p>Smoking is a bad habit. But does anyone really know how bad? The number of smokers is still so high that it is doubtful, especially that the amount of smokers around us makes it extremely hard to break that habit. That&#8217;s why many smokers lull themselves into a false security, repeating the stories about healthy 90-year old smokers. The truth however, is quite different.</p>
<p>Everyone probably knows that smoking damages one&#8217;s health, appearance, and image. It is dangerous to your family and workmates (if you smoke at work), inhaling smoke is not a pleasant feeling, and your clothes and you start to stink to heavens after only a few weeks of smoking. However, this is only the beginning of what happens to smokers. The whole truth is known only to few people &#8211; not because it&#8217;s secret, but because it is so hard to believe in all bad things we do to ourselves by smoking.</p>
<p>The Terrible Truth</p>
<p>The facts can&#8217;t be contested. Every year there are over four hundred thousand casualties of smoking a year in the United States alone. This is almost a hundred times more than died at the WTC attack and ten times more than the US has lost during the 6-year war with terrorism. The moment a smoker lights his or her cigarette, he or she inhales almost five thousand dangerous chemicals. 69 of those compounds are known to be carcinogenic. The risk is practical &#8211; over three quarters of lung cancer fatalities in the US is the direct effect of smoking.</p>
<p>Respiratory problems are only a peak of an iceberg. Smoking is also known for increasing the chance of a stroke and heart diseases even if you&#8217;re only a second-hand smoker. It gets worse if one has been exposed to the cigarette smoke when one was a child. Then, there is a good chance of developing severe asthma and allergies as well as nose, throat and ear infections. While these conditions do not normally kill, they may change a happy life into a nightmare &#8211; only because parents wanted to take a puff from time to time.</p>
<p>We may say of course, that people are free to do whatever they want, even if they harm themselves. Of course that true &#8211; we live in a free country anyway &#8211; but the problem is that one of the main victims of our bad habits are our children. OR, to tell the truth, parents and children alike. First of all, cigarette smoke may cause infertility both in males and females. Then, a woman who breaths in cigarette smoke during pregnancy sentence their children to suffer from the respiratory problems for the rest of their life. In more extreme cases, smoking during pregnancy may also cause premature infant deaths and early deliveries.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s still not all&#8230;</p>
<p>The problem with cigarettes is not only the death &#8211; we will all eventually die. The problem is that the smoke will ruin our physical appearance long before that.</p>
<p>The teeth are the first victim of smoking. As the cigarette smoke tar sticks to the teeth, it changes their color into an ugly yellowish shade of brown. At the same time cigarette smoke prevents blood from nourishing the gums, slowly but inevitably making them weak. This may effect in swelling and mouth inflammation, but most importantly it makes gums to grow weaker and weaker with every passing year, making it impossible for them to act as the teeth support.</p>
<p>Lack of proper circulation in gums causes severe risk of teeth loss. This is not theoretical! A teenage smoker loses between four and six teeth before he reaches his mid-thirties. Poor blood circulation in the mouth often results also in other problems, most notably complications after dental operations. For example, smokers are more likely to suffer of a dry-pocket.</p>
<p>Compared to teeth loss and dry-socket problems other &#8220;niceties&#8221; of smoking look trivial. Nevertheless, they are also infuriating as well as 100% sure to show up. The changes include losing color by your skin, thinning of hair and its breaking off, and the terrible stink surrounding you, your clothes and your stuff. Even though you may not notice it at first &#8211; the change takes months and it&#8217;s not easy to spot a difference building up during so long time &#8211; other people will see it for sure. So, if you notice that people start distance from you during parties or try not to sit next to you, it is probably either due to the odor they smell or to your weary and unattractive look. Either way, do not blame them &#8211; you have done it to yourself.</p>
<p>The time is running. With every cigarette you smoke, you cause irrevocably damage to your health and (reversible) negative change in your appearance. The only right thing to do is quitting smoking right her and right now. Of course, nicotine is addictive and giving up cigarettes is much more difficult than one may think. <p>Even though we have been lectured on bad effects of smoking for over forty years, the sad truth has yet reached the ears of all smokers. Even worse, as thousands of people take up smoking every year, many of them even before they turn 21, this addiction is far from being cured.</p>
<p>Why are people smoking? Te problem is that no one really knows, even the smokers themselves. Cigarettes devastate one&#8217;s image and good look, they cause terribly bad breath and they are quite expensive. What is worse, they also affect the health of everyone around you, especially children. To make things even worse, the initial effects of nicotine intake &#8211; the feeling of relaxation &#8211; does not last long and soon disappear completely when body accommodates for the nicotine and ceases to react on this drug.</p>
<p>The Terrible Truth</p>
<p>The statistics are staggering. With over 400,000 smoking-related deaths in the US every year, smoking proves to be far more dangerous to US citizens than any war. The US Army has lost only a fraction of this number during the whole WWII! The Japanese and German armies tried for five years (and failed) to cause the damage Americans are now doing to themselves every year! With almost 9 out of 10 cases of respiratory illness caused directly by smoking cigarettes, it is hard to believe that smoking is still not banned.</p>
<p>Smoking however, does much more than just cause lung cancer. It affects also the heart making it more probable to have a stroke, and increasing chances for developing allergies, respiratory problems such as asthma and other chronic diseases. This may happen both to smokers themselves, and to those who only inhale the smoke, for example children of smoking parents.</p>
<p>Another problem is the health of children. If a woman smokes during pregnancy, or if she spends a lot of time around smokers, the child will probably develop heart problems and smaller lungs. To tell the truth, this is not even a chance, but a certainty. Those children who apparently do not suffer from such problems had a potential of being extremely healthy sportsmen. They lost that chance only because their mothers inhaled cigarette smoke.</p>
<p>There is even more than that&#8230;</p>
<p>Most smokers however will claim that all those risks of death are just a chance, and they are ready to take it for the cigarette&#8217;s sake. The problem is that some bad thing happen to every smoker. You may live for a long time even if you&#8217;re a chain-smoker. However, you will look like a death warmed up for the better part of your life &#8211; and this can&#8217;t be helped. It&#8217;s not the statistics, it is the real life.</p>
<p>First of all, smoking affects the color of your teeth, staining them yellow or brown. This makes dental cleaning every year a must. However, the gum problems that develop soon after are not so easily disposed of. Cigarette smoke prevents gums from receiving all necessary nutrients, making them weaker and eventually resulting in inadequate periodontal support for your teeth.</p>
<p>The teeth problems are what should really count to smokers. The chance of cancer or respiratory diseases may not seem real enough (though it is 100% real, too). On the other hand, losing teeth due to smoking is not theoretical. It will happen to every smoker, even though they may not notice the connection. If you start smoking at the age of 19, you will probably have five teeth less by the age of 36. To make things worse, cigarettes are also responsible for most after-dental surgery complications, slowing down the healing rate and making your mouth an ideal place for infections to settle in. This may not be obvious if you are generally in a good physical condition, but when the inside of the mouth is already under great strain after, say, teeth removal, the effects may be immediate.</p>
<p>Finally, the negative effects of smoking are not only about your health. Smoking can also affect your look and your wardrobe. If you compare photos before you started smoking with how you look like now, you&#8217;ll surely notice that your skin has lost its color and become dull, often with yellowish or greyish touch. Your hair problems are also nothing special &#8211; every smoker has less hair which is thinner and less nourished than the non-smoker. But the story does not end here. Cigarette smoke can also damage your clothes. It&#8217;s not only about the smell, it is also about its indirect ability to damage the clothes. As the smoke blends into the fabric, one needs wash and dry clean them regularly, even if one hasn&#8217;t worn this exact piece of clothing yet. Either you clean your clothes regularly and turn them into washed rags, or you decide to let them stink. Either way, do not blame the manufacturer &#8211; China cheap workforce is not responsible for your bad habits.</p>
<p>The time is running. With every cigarette you smoke, you cause irrevocably damage to your health and (reversible) negative change in your appearance. The only right thing to do is quitting smoking right her and right now. Of course, nicotine is addictive and giving up cigarettes is much more difficult than one may think. <p>Smoking cessation is a process that totally depends upon your will, your character and attitude. You have to make commitments when you are striving to obtain things in life. Overcoming nicotine dependence means that you want a better health and you aim at changing something directly in what you do on a daily basis. Most of the people that smoke are unhappy and they think that cigarettes are going to help them in a way or another. Oh boy &#8221; they are so wrong!</p>

A good start is to wake up in the morning, throw all your cigarettes away, go and take a cold shower, look attentively into the mirror and say to yourself that from that moment on you are a free person and you no longer belong to cigarette addiction. Make that commitment once and for all. Think about your health and also consider your family. If you have kids, remember that they need a parent.</p>
<p>Being extremely busy with different tasks is very important when trying to get rid of this killing habit. Just continuously do something in order to avoid finding spare time for smoking a cigarette. Forget about it. Don&#8217;t even try to think about the existence of tobacco.</p>

<p>The necessary attitude that ones needs to have in order to quit smoking is based upon realizing that things have to be changed in life and that we have to learn how to adapt to different realities and situations. Giving up and not succeeding should be eliminated as a possible option in your way to actually achieve your goal. If you want to have results, you will get them but you have to work hard, you have to fight your addiction each and every second.</p>

<p>Quitting smoking has so many benefits that will vary from person to person. Knowing how it will benefit you best is a great goal and good for motivation. Use these benefits to remind you why you wanted to stop smoking so when the going gets tough, you are prepared. A huge benefit for eveyone will be an improved healthier lifestyle.</p>
<p>Your health is probably the greatest benefit from quitting smoking. Health problems such as lung cancer, heart disease, heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure risks are decreased. It will take some time before the risk goes down which will vary person to person but your health should show signs of improvement. You will be in better physical health and be able to breathe better.</p>
<p>Money is a great benefit to quitting smoking. Did you know that the average smoker spends over $1800 a year on cigarettes? By not spending the money for smoking, you have inceased your budget. Maybe you would like to spend the money on a sports car, new furniture, or pay off old debts. Investing the money in mutual funds or in a savings account will maximize your benefits.</p>
<p>Other benefits can include being able to keep your house, car and clothes smelling better. Everyone knows that cigarettes have a bad smell, and those who do not smoke can really pick up the smell. As your desire to smoke goes away, your desire to smell good will increase. This can lead to a complete top to bottom cleaning that will put you in a great mood. If you quit in the spring you could just consider it your yearly spring cleaning spurt. You will definitely love the increased sense of smell though, after all those gorgeous flowers in the yard will now have a reason to exist beyond just looking pretty.</p>
<p>The greatest benefit that you will experience is your expected life span will be increased. What is better than finding the fountain of youth? Just by quitting smoking, you can significantly increase the amount of time that you are expected to live. This combined with the health benefits that stopping smoking offers you could find that you are looking at adding as much as 10 years onto your life. This is something that is absolutely huge, and just by quitting smoking as well. </p>
<p>Discovering the added time on your life span is usually a shock to most. When you get older, you will appreciate the effort you made while younger to quit smoking and gain those extra years. Always live life to the fullest and by quitting smoking you are well on your way to new activities with plenty of energy to enjoy for numerous years.</p>

<p>Feelings of fatigue, irritability and an extremely persistent headache are all side effects of nicotine withdrawal and are all perfectly normal. Why? Simply because it is in the first 72 hours which nicotine purges itself from your system &#8211; regardless of the stop smoking method you have chosen to use.</p>
<p>Preparation is the key. By knowing what you are in for, you can make plans to deal with the feelings and symptoms and not have to hide away where you won&#8217;t bother anyone. However it is also a good idea to inform your family and friends (but only if they are supportive) of your goals. This also gives them the opportunity to stay clear if they think you might be a little bit cranky!</p>
<p>Keep in mind, that by making plans in advance on how you are going to handle these symptoms, it can really help if they present themselves. What are you going to feel? What are the symptoms of withdrawal? You may want to include these things on your list:</p>
<p>Agitated or angry: Find something to do to take your mind off things. In solitude is probably best.</p>
<p>Feeling overly emotional or sensitive: Seek out somewhere you can be alone until the feelings subside.</p>
<p>Feeling tired: Rest and healing are needed to allow myself to heal from my addiction.</p>
<p>Feeling nauseated: I will drink a glass of water (helps with nausea, as do apples and ginger).</p>
<p>After I eat I will: Find something to do so I don&#8217;t crave the &#8216;after-dinner&#8217; cigarette.</p>
<p>By drinking lots of fluids, and most especially water, your body&#8217;s stores of nicotine will be rapidly metabolized and flushed from your system. The downside is that you will have to go to the bathroom more often, but the upside is that the nicotine will clear itself from your system that much quicker and alleviate the physical withdrawal symptoms.</p>
<p>A few things can make the withdrawal symptoms stronger rather than weaker. Caffeine may be one of those. But not for all people. Every situation is unique. Best to judge for yourself. If you are finding that caffeinated drinks are causing you cravings, you should cut down drastically or quit altogether.</p>
<p>Sometimes giving up too many things at once can also open up another can of worms, so maybe just try cutting back on the caffeine. Water, fruit juices, and even ice cream shakes, can help clear out your system and get those withdrawal symptoms done with faster.</p>
<p>A very common side effect during the first few nights is finding it difficult to fall asleep and then to sleep soundly. Even though you might have been exhausted throughout the day, when it&#8217;s time for bed it seems like everything is racing through your mind and you can&#8217;t get comfortable.</p>

<p>Regardless of which option you choose that you feel will assist you to stop smoking, the first three days are the hardest. This is when the physical symptoms of nicotine leaving your body is felt the most. Common symptoms such as irritability, feeling sleepy or fatigued, and that slight headache that never seems to go away, are all common symptoms of withdrawal.</p>
<p>Preparation is the key. By knowing what you are in for, you can make plans to deal with the feelings and symptoms and not have to hide away where you won&#8217;t bother anyone. However it is also a good idea to inform your family and friends (but only if they are supportive) of your goals. This also gives them the opportunity to stay clear if they think you might be a little bit cranky!</p>
<p>Keep in mind, that by making plans in advance on how you are going to handle these symptoms, it can really help if they present themselves. What are you going to feel? What are the symptoms of withdrawal? You may want to include these things on your list:</p>
<p>Agitated or angry: Find something to do to take your mind off things. In solitude is probably best.</p>
<p>Feeling overly emotional or sensitive: Seek out somewhere you can be alone until the feelings subside.</p>
<p>Feeling tired: Rest and healing are needed to allow myself to heal from my addiction.</p>
<p>Feeling nauseated: I will eat an apple or ginger (helps with nausea).</p>
<p>After a meal I will: get out and take a walk, or clear the table.</p>
<p>Drinking lots and lots of fluids, especially water, is a great way to clear the nicotine from your system as the fluids will metabolize your body&#8217;s chemical stores. Side effects, at worse, are more frequent bathroom breaks and a water-logged stomach. The upside is that the faster the nicotine leaves your system, the sooner the physical symptoms will subside.</p>
<p>A few things can make the withdrawal symptoms stronger rather than weaker. Caffeine may be one of those. But not for all people. Every situation is unique. Best to judge for yourself. If you are finding that caffeinated drinks are causing you cravings, you should cut down drastically or quit altogether.</p>
<p>However, giving up multiple vices at once can also be very stressful. So be wary and maybe just cut back on the caffeine to start. But be sure to use plenty of water, juices and even milkshakes to kick start your system and get those withdrawal symptoms out of the way.</p>
<p>A very common side effect during the first few nights is finding it difficult to fall asleep and then to sleep soundly. Even though you might have been exhausted throughout the day, when it&#8217;s time for bed it seems like everything is racing through your mind and you can&#8217;t get comfortable.</p>
