<p>Perhaps everyone would admit that at some point in their lives they have asked themselves whether a task is within their ability of not. This is not uncommon. In fact, this is the usual feeling of those who are trying to quit smoking. You can get overwhelmed by the stress that comes in trying to quit. Thinking then of how to regain complete control over a very weak point in your life is very crucial. You have to set yourself for success to be able to handle the challenges in attempting to quit, otherwise, you might just be caught in a cycle of continuously just trying to quit.</p>
<p>What differentiates smokers who successfully quit from those who remain struggling in their habit is the former&#8217;s strong desire to quit and the determination to make it to the end. There are those who seem to be interested and played with the idea but only for a short period of time. Their interest might lead them to read a book, talk to a doctor but still remain unsuccessful because they have not done the necessary changes in their lifestyles. In contrast, those who are determined to quit, do the same and even broadcast their desire to quit and they take everything to heart. They ask for help from friends and family and act on their advice. In addition, they actively seek information to know the best options and aids that are suitable to their own lifestyle and in how to improve more their health.</p>
<p>These differences of approach would tell whether efforts would end in success or failure. You really have to make your decisions of what you are going to do with your habit and to sell those ideas to yourself. It is not enough to half-convince yourself of the probability of succeeding. You really have to be totally convinced that this time you would succeed. And only then can you be assured of success. In fact, the question will only be how soon you will accomplish your goal since you have already firmly put yourself in the right track. </p>
<p>As individuals, we encounter a lot of subliminal messages. Many of these messages are what we hear from others, but most of these are information that we tell to ourselves. In our attempt to quit, we must try to change our way of thinking by sending the right subliminal messages. If you are constantly sending positive signals to yourself, you are unconsciously building up your confidence. This will, in turn, increase your will power to resist the temptation when the urge to quit becomes very strong. Unlike someone who constantly is constantly doubting his or her capacity, giving in would just be so easy.</p>
<p>If you are making confident and encouraging statements about yourself, you are building your inner power and when the urge to smoke is very strong, you would find this will power working for you. But then if you believe that you are incapable and weak, when temptations come, no doubt you will immediately give in.</p>
<p>If you are programming yourself to succeed in your attempt while admitting that quitting smoking would not be that easy, you are building up a high level of commitment towards this venture. Accepting the inevitability of problems along the way and already preparing yourselves for them is essential to your success. You will find that going towards your goal of quitting for good is better than quitting on trial. While you might think it is easier to quit on a weekend and see how it goes, this will certainly end with you just smoking back. Your plans will be more effective if you already set your mind to quitting smoking for good.</p>

<p>You have decided that now is the best time for you to start quitting smoking. So you sit around and try to reflect of how to go about with your plan. You know deep inside you that the venture would not be that easy. In fact you have already envisioned the long and difficult process ahead. You have thought of quitting countless times but never once did the idea appeal to you. Now you are push to attack the plan and think of the best way possible. You realize this is the hardest thing that you are ever going to do in your entire life, for very good reasons.</p>
<p>A sad note is that for each year the number of people who attempted but failed is astounding. While there are millions struggling to kick the habit for good, there is an increasing number of people who unwittingly start to smoke. You are struggling to avoid smoking and yet everywhere around you poses temptation. Thus, the simple task of quitting, which is what you thought at first, is not an easy task after all. Trying to win over these temptations is very important. You must have a strong self-control if you ever want to stop smoking for good.</p>
<p>Starting with a good plan is essential in your venture. But before you ever create a plan, you must first know what are the reasons why you are quitting now. Reasons themselves are unimportant. They can be serious or silly. But what is important is that you are convinced by these reasons. If you only thought of a reason but have not felt that push from your experience, that might just end up to be a weak motive. Thus, it does not have much power to motivate you. You need, therefore, to spend a time in silence to be able to examine as honestly as you can the reasons why you have to quit.</p>
<p>Identifying your reasons or motives is essential in the process as well as for the subsequent steps. What many struggling smokers do not realize is that once they have singled out a motive for quitting, this can be a very strong push that would make them stay on track no matter how difficult situations seem to be. But if their motives or reasons are not clear, definitely, they would end up slipping, or cheating on their goal in no time. But if they are guided by their motive, the other steps such as creating a schedule, and even building a network of support would just be very simple.</p>
<p>You will have to work hard to stay committed to the plan. This means being alert to recognize temptations in places and situations. This is true when you are out in a restaurant and the lure of the smoking area where there are people with their tobaccos or stalls with cigarettes can be very attractive. Better to immediately walk away from these places. Even at home, remove anything that you can associate with smoking. Clear your home of any cigarettes. If you can find someone who is in the same boat as you do, struggling too to quit smoking, the better will be your chances of success. While not everyone can find success in a buddy program, having someone into your goals can make you share the accountability as well as point out lapses together in your program.</p>
<p>This accountability that each buddy feels for the other is very helpful in trying to quit. This is a good antidote for those many self-made attempts to quit which just ended up in failure just because no one has offered support when the urge to smoke becomes very strong. Having a friend who shares the same trial and struggle that you do would help you to resist more the temptations since neither one of you will want to be the first to give in. Use this bond to your advantage and watch how the two of you have succeeded in improving your health and overcoming the chain of smoking.</p>
